EEZI-AWN Xplor Roof Tent - Premium Clamshell with Exceptional Space
The Xplor sits at the top end of the hard-shell roof tent market - a large, premium tent designed and built in South Africa by EEZI-AWN, a specialist manufacturer with over 40 years of experience.
Proven across every major continent over decades of real-world use, EEZI-AWN roof tents are known globally for durability, weather protection, and long-term reliability.
See our walk-around video of the Xplor here:
Class-leading space
At 2.3m long and 1.5m wide, we believe the Xplor is the largest clamshell roof tent available. The result is genuine, usable interior space - ideal for taller users, couples, or even a small family with a younger child.
Despite its size, the Xplor maintains a low-profile, aerodynamic shape, with a tapered front designed to slice through the air and minimise drag.
With a 2.2m x 1.38m mattress area, there is generous sleeping space and real room to move inside the tent.
Premium canvas
The Xplor uses EEZI-AWN’s globally proven 260gsm core-spun poly-cotton canvas, Teflon-treated at the mill - delivering performance comparable to around 520gsm through the dual-layer side wall construction.
Dual-layer canvas construction is a major differentiating factor, creating a double-glazed effect. The inner canvas is protected and shaded by the outer layer, improving insulation, reducing condensation, and enhancing real-world performance in harsh conditions.
Put simply, you will only find this quality and configuration of canvas on globally proven South African brands. It’s a defining feature of the Xplor and a clear step up from locally branded roof tents.
Exceptional mattress
The Xplor features an 80mm SABS-approved foam mattress.
More importantly, it’s a noticeably higher-quality foam than what’s typically found in roof tents.
In our experience, this is by far the best mattress you’ll find in any roof tent on the New Zealand market.
Lightweight for its size
Despite its generous size, the Xplor remains relatively lightweight at approximately 82kg including the mattress and ladder.
This delivers an excellent balance of interior space and comfort without excessive roof load.
(For context, some brands exclude the mattress and ladder from their stated weights, making direct comparisons misleading.)
Additional features
- Insulated shells for improved temperature control and reduced condensation. No anti-condensation mat - this tent is designed to a higher standard
- Aerodynamic clamshell design for better airflow
- Modular fly for improved ventilation and views
- Integrated electrical system with USB-A, USB-C, dual Anderson plugs, and National Luna LED lighting. Light can be controlled from a separate switch accessible while laying in bed.
If you’re looking for a roof tent that prioritises space, materials quality, and real-world performance, the Xplor sits in a different league to typical locally branded options.
